You can 'add' the DLC to your campaign at any time. You may like the DLC characters alot and prefer playing with them, so, if you plan on getting the game, Id say you can totally start with the DLC with no real 'downsides' or 'spoilers' but if you want to make sure you enjoy it before investing more money into it, just start the regular campaign and get a couple missions in before you make your decision. Getting the DLC and playing with it from the start wont harm the experience at all. By the time you get rolling youll have like 4-7 missions to pick from at any given time, so youll just be burning through them either way, there are a few missions where you 'pick a side' of the battle, but those are just a few out of the game's overall structure.

The extra missions of the DLC are all very good, with some really interesting design choices in a few of them - but it really wouldnt make a difference in what order you do the DLC in compared to the main game. This is a straight up card based dungeon crawler, the story is a side thing compared to the actual gameplay. This isnt the type of game you can really 'spoil' or ruin with more missions. I don't want to miss out on something that the DLC might change, take away or add from vanilla. But would you say it's better to start with it rather than wait and only play it after finishing the vanilla? This is if you are going to get the DLC regardless.
